Teen Summer Leadership & Mental Health Awareness Program

As an organization saddled with the responsibility of helping society to be better, we organize a yearly summer program for teenagers and young adults between the ages of 13 and 19. This program exposes these young ones to first-hand information on how to be the best version of themselves in this ever-changing world. They are also trained with leadership abilities and vocational skills, in order to be assets and not liabilities to society.

Also, with a focus on the obvious vacuum in the area of proper awareness of sexual and substance abuse in our society, the Institute of counseling has decided to take the bull by the horn by taking the awareness to teenagers. We believe that capturing teenagers and young adults will go a long way in solving these societal ills.

Breakfast Meeting for School Counselors & Administrators

The reality is that many schools are made up of different children from various dysfunctional homes, we sometimes blame the schools for their vices but failed to realize that the issues are from their background, but what if we are able to have schools that can come to the rescue? School counseling is in three domains; academic, career, and personal/social. These services and programs help students resolve emotional, social, or behavioral problems and help them develop a clearer focus or sense of direction.

Individual character and personality are developed in childhood, most of the issues people are dealing with as adults started while growing up. The fact that most of the children’s and teenagers’ years are spent in school says a lot about the responsibilities resting on the shoulder of our primary and secondary schools Caregivers when it comes to their mental health, It will be wise to say that, this Institution plays a vital role in determining how our society eventually turns out.

As part of our YOU ARE NOT ALONE CAMPAIGN The Institute of Counseling recognizes this crucial aspect of life and the danger posed by a lack of access to professional clinical counseling in our schools and designed programs to solve the problems. We have a community of professional and passionate counselors who are ready to support schools in getting it right in the area of professional counseling.

Breakfast Meeting for Church Leaders, Counselors & Workers

The idea for the breakfast meeting was necessitated by the positive feedback and responses from the Guilding light assembly workers after the training on The Mental health impact of covid-19. There is no better time to take mental health awareness and professional counseling seriously among Christian brothers and sisters than now because the mental health impact of Covid-19 on human functionality, if not taken into consideration, could be worse than the pandemic. We recognize the importance of getting it right in the area of counseling as a crucial tool that the church requires to correct the ills in society, and Applying professional skills and proper counseling ethics to Pastoral Counseling will help the church a great deal.

The correlation between the work of ministry and counseling cannot be over-emphasized. The church is the only correcting factor that can save the world from the current negative situation. Because Counseling is not just an act, there is a need to have the required knowledge and skills needed to help people. It is therefore imperative that every church has a counseling ministry being run by professionals who understand how to apply biblical principles to situations through proper pastoral counseling skills.

Biblical counseling is a raft for people caught in a river of emotions and turmoil. However, people must know that such a ministry exists or they will seek help elsewhere if they seek help at all. If such a ministry does not exist in a church, people, like sheep, will wander astray. They will seek to solve their problems without even thinking about consulting scripture. With the blending of Pastoral Counseling & professional Counseling Skills, Members will begin to have more confidence in Counseling and the church.

People run to their spiritual leaders believing they have all the solutions to their problems, this could sometimes result in disappointment as a result of extraordinary expectations. Creating a professional counseling ministry backed with biblical principles, whether a counselor is a pastor, a leader or a member of the church will help people to be more open, knowing that counselors are not perfect and will never have all the answers. This helps in making sure that the counseling session does not end in hopelessness.

Again, People do not want their business discussed with others or talked about on blogs or Facebook. Talking to a professional Counselor gives the assurance the person needs to know that what they say will be kept private between them and the counselor. People have a variety of problems such as alcoholism, pornography, drug addiction, infidelity, unemployment, death of a child, eating disorders, and bankruptcy to name a few. This is serious business. A professional counseling ministry within the church has the opportunity to give sound biblical advice while helping people conform more to the image of Jesus Christ, at the same time, make use of professional Counselling skills, ethics, theories, and therapeutic interventions.

The purpose of putting this program together is to help orientate and brief participants about the need to incorporate professional counseling competence and clinical counseling skills into church counseling and ensures that a given number of church heads possess the basic skill of counseling as this will help in a long way to help members of the ministry in resolving their problem without going to seek help elsewhere.

Within a church context, the pastor’s task is much greater than the counselor’s, which is why the needed skills need to be acquired by ministers to fill this vacuum. It will be a great idea if church members could go to the one who was both a skilled counselor and also the pastor. Someone who was trained in professional pastoral counseling skills, at the same time committed to pastoring church members and is readily available to them in the church.

>> Increase the confidence of the members in the skills and professionalism of the counselors.

>> Ensures that members don’t seek wrong counsel outside the church.

>> Improve the counseling competencies of counselors/workers in the area of pastoral counseling.

>> Ensures that counseling produces the desired result and thereby a happy and more productive congregation.

>> Could even be a means of creating employment for the church members. etc.
